Local Education Adult Resource Network (LEARN) Community of Practice

Washington’s educational attainment goal is set at 70 percent of adults ages 25 to 44 earning a postsecondary credential. Currently, 47 percent of adults in Washington do not have a credential, making adult learnings a critical population to engage (or re-engage) toward the state goal.

Adults face unique barriers distinct from students enrolling directly from high school. They juggle work, parenting, and household priorities. Also, when we look at completion rates by race and ethnicity we uncover significant disparities. To find greater equity and advance our attainment goal, we must understand the needs and challenges facing adult learners in Washington.

LEARN Purpose

LEARN will serve as a hub to analyze the current landscape, support ongoing and new regional efforts, and assist the state in establishing policy priorities for adult learners. As a participant, you’ll be able to:

  • Connect with thought partners to assist in broadening awareness of the adult postsecondary landscape and learner experience;
  • Engage with experts;
  • Engage with practitioners supporting adult learners across multiple sectors of the higher education ecosystem in Washington;
  • And seek guidance and assistance to support partnership initiatives such as funding exploration.

LEARN will meet monthly beginning in August 2024 and conclude in June 2025. We expect monthly, virtual meetings to be 90 minutes in length, with potential for in-person opportunities.
