American College Application Campaign

The American College Application Campaign® (ACAC), a national initiative administered by the Washington Student Achievement Council, is designed to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue a postsecondary education. The purpose is to assist high school seniors as they navigate the college admissions process and ensure each participating student submits at least one admissions application.  This initiative seeks to address a critical need for the state. Income inequality is driven largely by a lack of access to college. Overwhelming evidence reveals that higher levels of education lead to greater prosperity and competitiveness in the knowledge economy.

In November 2012, Washington state piloted College Application Week with Washington State GEAR UP schools and in South King County  through College Application Completion Events as part of the Roadmap to College.  In 2013, Washington State GEAR UP modified their pilot to College Application Month in October 2013 during which schools conducted activities and support around exploration, preparation, and application.
