The Legislature and Governor allocated $50,000 in the 2013-15 state operating budget to provide state grants to Washington colleges and universities participating in the federal College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). The state funds are designed to supplement funding for the federal program, which helps migrant and seasonal farm workers and their children go to college.
CAMP students receive orientation to college, instruction in study skills, one-on-one counseling, and financial aid. Most students are the first in their families to go to college and many are the first in their families to complete high school.
In the 2012-13 fiscal year, the following six colleges and universities received state CAMP funding:
Central Washington University
Columbia Basin College
Eastern Washington University
University of Washington
Washington State University
Wenatchee Valley College
The Council has released a Request for Proposal to eligible in-state CAMP providers, inviting application for these grants for the 2013-15 biennium. Awards for 2013-15 biennial grant funding are expected to be announced in September 2013.
