Child Care Grants

Students:
This grant does not provide child care funding directly to students. Some colleges do provide child care assistance to students. Please contact the student services office at your college to learn more.

The 2011 Legislature appropriated $75,000 for each fiscal year of the 2011-13 biennial budget to address the need for high quality, accessible, and affordable child care for students at Washington's public baccalaureate institutions. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to address this need.

Background

The purpose of the child care grant program is to promote high-quality, accessible, and affordable child care for students attending the state's public four-year colleges and universities.

Funding for the child care grant program was suspended during the 2010-11 fiscal year due to budget cuts made in the 2010 state supplemental budget. Prior to funding suspension, four public colleges and universities received child care grants:

The Evergreen State College
The University of Washington
Washington State University
Western Washington University

2011-13 Biennium
The Higher Education Coordinating Board released a Request for Proposal to the six in-state public four-year college and universities, inviting application for these grants. Grant proposals were submitted in September 2011.
