The use of information technology to provide educational opportunities for students is well established in Washington. Colleges offer eLearning courses to students who are placebound or work full-time; eLearning also provides educational programs to people who live in remote areas, distant from college campuses.
More recently, academic programs that can be completed online are being “bundled” and offered by public or private entities to both students and higher education institutions. With proper safeguards, these approaches offer potential financial savings to students pursuing educational goals.
In developing the Roadmap, the Council will consider how online learning opportunities can be integrated into each institutional program, and what the implications are in terms of student cost and system capacity.
