The Washington Student Achievement Council participates in Washington’s legislative process by sponsoring bills, tracking the progress of legislation affecting higher education, and providing information and analysis used to develop new laws.
The Council was created in 2012 with the passage of House Bill 2483. This legislation also created a Joint Higher Education Committee of the Legislature to review and provide feedback on the work of the Council, to provide recommendations for higher education policy, and to improve communication, coordination, and alignment between the higher education system and the Legislature.
Information about previous sessions and legislative activities of the Council’s predecessor agency, the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB), can be found here.
